yip - the biggest problem with digital recording is called latency - it is when the data is recorded slower than the imput and the timinng goes out/buffering etc - can be very buggy and frustrating. Main problems, hard drive writing speed. Check your hard drive needs to be 7600? rpm or faster. Also...

yip plug guitar to disortion pedal & then distortion pedal to m-audio and then m-audio to pc via usb. Problem with USB is a bit slow. It might be o.k with one track at a time. Firewire is better if you can afford it. what?...with usb being slow...would that mean there would be like "buffer...

If I was starting out I would look at something like this firebox.
