The Con
The Con is Tegan and Sara's fifth full-length studio album, to be released on July 24, 2007. Jason McGerr of Death Cab for Cutie, Matt Sharp of The Rentals and Hunter Burgan of AFI will appear on the album.[1][2] The track listing was revealed on Tegan and Sara's MySpace on March 27, 2007.
The album was leaked on P2P networks on May 26, 2007.
Filter-Mag [1] received an early copy of the album and wrote:
“
* Produced by Death Cab For Cutie's Chris Walla, guest players include Jason McGerr from DCFC on drums, and Matt Sharp from The Rentals/Weezer and Hunter Burgan from AFI on bass (Sharp on Sara's songs, Burgan on Tegan's.)
* Written while the twin sisters were apart, resting after touring the highly acclaimed 2004 album So Jealous.
* The record sounds a little more mature than the duo's past works, which makes complete sense, as the duo is maturing. Duh. (They're 26 now, mind you.) But it also sounds a little more melancholy than past efforts, which could be a result of the sisters being apart from each other while writing. Or a result of the state of the world. Or their dog died. Who knows?
* Track 3, "The Con," takes a little influence from touring partners The Killers and Hot Hot Heat, with a synth-driven "hook" that's not quite prominent enough to be called a hook but is still pretty catchy.
* Track 5, a darker number with frantic beats and overlapping vocals, could almost be an indie rap song, but in a serious way.
* Track 6, "Back In Your Head," and 7, "Hop a Plane," are a little bit poppier and carefree-er, but we're probably not likely to hear them at baseball games, like we did "Walking with a Ghost."
* The trio of Track 9, "Burn Your Life Down," Track 10, "Nineteen," and Track 11 "Floorplan," have more stylistic elements than anything they've ever done, and sound a little fuller than anything else on the record.
* Track 13, "Dark Come Soon," sounds pretty produced and it's likely we'll be hearing it on Grey's Anatomy.
”

The all-chick panel on Jonesy's Jukebox Jury gave track 3 "The Con" a solid PANTS last Friday. That means they thought it sucked. I didn't like it either. Sounded like they were trying to prove that they can rock out like a combination of IMA ROBOT & Talking Heads but it didn't work.

I went fer that "Haunting" little ditty till I started
stuffing Habanero chillis in my ear(the voices made

just leave yer client running 24/7?...I used to....
now there's a posse of RIAA lawyers after me.
...and rotter thinks my eyepatch is a thong...

Thanks. Someone else described it as a "telenovela take". It reminds me of the soap opera or melodrama parodies on the Carol Burnette Show where Harvey Korman would look into the camera & the music would go "da da daaa!"The Rizen shloemoe wrote:Ah cool new avatar Robert...seems kinda like a "John Belushi"
squirrel type look...very cool
