Yeah, I get e-mail that says "your paypal account needs attention" or "is about to expire". I mark it as spam & delete it. I'm sure some people fall for it, though or else, they wouldn't keep trying it.

We get all sorts of crap , ebay disputes, paypal communiques, update your account information from so many different banks and building societies, hot tips on investments, health scams, 419 scams, porn links, rolex, v1agra, slimming tips, c1alis, congrats you are a lottery winner, address undeliverable, it all without exception gets deleted. I used to email the genuine companies that were behind this phishing.

abuse@natwestbank.co.uk

Now I don't bother.

Absolutely, they do it because if just 1% of the people they spam responds, it is worthwhile. Never respond unless you feel like yanking the chain of some Nigerian scammer and never give your address or phone number and never click links that announce that you can opt out of their mail schemes by clicking here. That just tells them they have a live one.

It's spam and crap. We probably download on average 500 emails, perday as a micro business and of that between about three and twenty are relevant, the rest is nonsense and gets filed away by our spam filter as "probable spam." I usually have a a quick look through the probable 2 to 500 to check the headers and then select all and zap them. We get that volume simply because our business address is all over the internet and can easily be harvested by the spam bots and fed into the next mass emailing project that the spammers have.
