The All Blacks (New Zealand) always start the game with a traditional Maori Haka.

Rugby?...a very manly sport...a proto-football game
...no shoulder pads...but then no 300lbs(137Kg for
"foriegners")linebackers either....very popular in all
the former territories.....God Save the Queen!!!!

I played it at school in bloody Hull, it was a dirty muddy wet cold game.

Like US football but without any protection. Well maybe a gumshield. "Rugby song" anyone?

Just google it.

Half the players lose their teeth it seems and they is all without exception built like brick shit houses. Big boys.

I was a hooker at skool. Titter ye not, nay!

England stuffed Scotland in the Six Nations on Saturday. In the Scottish borders Rugby is very very big. Hawick, Galashiels, Jedburgh. I always liked Wasps myself - cool name for a Sports team. Also popular with the lassies as they seem to like these Jocks of the elongated ball. Well at least two I knew at Edinburgh University did anyway.

Blah

Cheerio.

Yeah,

In the U.K Scotland, Wales & Ireland it seems to be much bigger game, In England rugby it is drarfed by football (Soccer) but still popular in some areas like Bath etc.

In the North of England I would say more so and where there are public schools. Well I played it in Hull. Down South it was football. South Wales definitely in the valleys boyo and near steel towns.

+ there are 2 versions of rugger. Rugby League and Rugby Union.

Here's one aspect of the Scottish game. Google:

uppies and doonies

for a glance at ball games in Scottish towns. Kirkwall in Orkney and Jedburgh in the borders.

Some speculation that in place of balls, human heads may have once been used but I can't comment on that. Especially as the game was invented at Rugby public school :-)

Yours Aye.

Ha ha 8)

Yeah I think in the U.K rugby can be assocoated with public schools & university etc Oxford etc. Soccer is more the working mans game. Maybe I am being to sterotype here.

In Australia & New Zealand though Rugby very popular and the staple game. Soccer almost does not exist.

In Aus & N.Z the aguement is Rugby Union vs Rugby League, For International purposes it is all union though and that is what I like to watch. In Australia they also have the very popular Aussie Rules.

I used to play rugby union in school in N.Z. Love the game.
